“…don’t shoot the messenger!” Mnemosyne defends Mercury

Tracey Rose works with performance, video installations and photography. She lectures at the Vaal Triangle Technikon-Institut in Vanderbijl Park und at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. Her works are about the dogmatic limitations, as well as the weaknesses and deficiencies of the institutionalized discourse around culture. In so doing, she addresses above all its treatment of identity politics, deals with topics like gender and race and makes reference to positions of performance art from the 1960s and 1970s. She has been represented in exhibitions at, among other places: Fundación PROA, Buenos Aires (2011); Biennale Lyon (2011); Kunstmuseum Bern (2010); Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (2009); MC Kunst, Los Angeles (2008); Museo Tamayo, Mexico City (2006).
