In the second Stadtgespräch Tania Mancheno and Jürgen Zimmerer are going to investigate Hamburg’s approach to it’s colonial history. Hamburg was the first German city to decide to comprehensively come to terms with its “colonial heritage”, and to dare a new start in “German commemorative culture”. Who is involved in the process of decolonizing public space and which social changes does it effect? The colonial era – for many it is the past, but it is omnipresent.
