The Logistics of the Metropolis
Irene Hatzidimou
(political scientist, associate ver.di, Hamburg)

If there is no metropolis without an airport, the airport is the be-all and end-all of global mobility. For many travelers Hamburg Airport is the first and last thing, which they see of Hamburg. In the transpublic halls a self-image of Hamburg is imagined and enacted. Every day, around 40,000 people pass through the airport system. How to overcome the logistic demand and under which conditions? In the reflecting surfaces of the world of the airport mobility meets migration and precarity. A look behind the scenes shows the new methods of precarization and control. The contribution by Irene Hatzidimou demonstrates which forms of organization can confront this phenomenon and asks how they can be connected to the social-spatial movements of the city.
