Eulen nach Athen tragen: Zur Politik öffentlicher Räume während der Krise

Mit einem Fokus auf die Forderung nach selbstorganisierten Räumen und Modellen gemeinschaftlicher Teilhabe untersuchen Gigi Argyropoulou und Constantina Theodorou die aktuelle Komplexität kulturräumlicher Strategien in Athen jenseits von Glorifizierung und Verelendung. Welche Ansätze formuliert die Athener Kunstszene gegenwärtig und welche Rolle spielt dabei das Versprechen internationaler Kunstaufmerksamkeit durch die Documenta 14 (2017)? In ihrem Streitgespräch stellen sie neue soziale und politische Ansätze vor. Sie untersuchen Bottom-up-Initiativen genauso wie aufgrund der andauernden Austeritätskrise seitens der Politik gesetzte Strategien. Was bedeuten diese neueren Formen kulturellen Krisenurbanismus’ für künstlerische Praktiken und welche politischen Forderungen lassen sich daraus formulieren?

Gigi Argyropoulou ist Theoretikerin, Künstlerin und Kuratorin. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Athen und London und organisiert internationale Performance-Festivals und interdisziplinäre Projekte. Sie ist Gründungsmitglied von Mavili Collective, Institute for Live Arts Research, Green Park und F2 Performance Unit / Mkultra. Nach Abschluss ihrer Doktorarbeit an der Universität Roehampton arbeitet sie zurzeit als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Birbeck College in London. Mit Hypatia Vourloumis ist sie Herausgeberin von Performance Research, On Institutions (Nr. 4 / 2015).

Constantina Theodorou ist Architektin und Theoretikerin. Sie recherchiert und arbeitet zu aktuellen urbanen Themen in Athen. Ihre Videoarbeiten werden auf internationalen Festivals und in Ausstellungen gezeigt. Sie ist Redaktionsmitglied der Zeitschrift Architektones und Gründungsmitglied der Gruppe KOINO Athina, die zu Urban Commons arbeitet. Zudem schreibt sie für die Blogs Omonia Diary und City Issue.

Focusing on reclamations of self-organized spaces and models for collective participation Gigi Argyropoulou und Constantina Theodorou explore the current complexity of cultural-spacial strategies in Athens against glorification and 
impoverishment. Which approaches are articulated currently by Athen’s art szene  and which role plays the promise of international attention because of Documenta 14 (in 2017) ? In their debate they introduce new social and political approaches. They consider bottom-up initiatives as well as top-buttom political strategies caused by the continuing austerity crisis. What do these new forms of cultural crisis-urbanism mean for artistic practices and which political demands can be formulated?

Gigi Argyropoulou is a researcher, artist, and curator. She lives and workes in Athens and London and organizes international performance-festivals and cross-disciplinary projects. She is a founding member of Mavili Collective, Institute for Live Arts Research, Green Park and F2 Performance Unit/Mkultra. She completed her PhD at Roehampton University and works  as a research fellow at Birkbeck College. Currently she co-edited with Hypatia Vourloumis Performance Research, On Institutions (Nr. 4 / 2015).

Constantina Theodorou is an architect-researcher working with urban issues in Athens. Her videos have been presented at international festivals and exhibitions. She is a member of the editorial committee of the periodical Architektones and a founding member of the team ΚΟΙΝΟ Athina which works on urban commons. She also runs the blogs Omonia Diary and City Issue.
